Always be 'crootin'. That is the nature of the beast when you run a football program like the Miami Hurricanes. While head coach Mario Cristobal is proficient at it, he will need all the help he can get to keep homegrown players like Mark Matthews from leaving South Florida. Meanwhile on the other side of the country, four-star safety Tory Pittman III is having second thoughts on staying home for school.
Greg Smith of Rivals is reporting that Miami and LSU are trying to flip Pittman away from Nebraska...

According to the 247Sports Composite, Pittman is the No. 1 player from Nebraska, the No. 3 safety in his class, and the No. 53 overall prospect in the 2027 recruiting cycle. He has 15 offers, including ones from Colorado, Florida State, Kansas, Kansas State, Michigan, and Oregon, in addition to the ones he has from LSU, Miami, and Nebraska. Will Cristobal be able to outflank Matt Rhule to land him?
He also has to keep in mind that Lane Kiffin is now calling the shots over in Baton Rouge these days...
Miami could flip 4-star Omaha native Tory Pittman III away from Nebraska
Let's be totally honest with ourselves. If Pittman were to back out of his commitment with the Cornhuskers, that could be devastating for Rhule's reign over the program. Last year was supposed to be the pop year for him in Lincoln, and that really did not happen. All the while, Miami just played for a national championship. LSU is aiming to get back to 2019 levels of dominance under a new regime.
Where this lands differently for Nebraska, as opposed to Miami or LSU, is the Hurricanes and Tigers can afford to lose their best prospect in-state to a Power Four team most years. Nebraska does not have anywhere close to the same amount of in-state talent as Florida and Louisiana do. If a guy who has been committed to Nebraksa for nearly nine months now flips, that could be quite troublesome.
What this also may indicate is Pittman may want to play in Corey Hetherman's defense, as opposed to subjecting himself to whatever Rhule runs defensively in Lincoln. Being a Blackshirt used to mean something, but that was a long time ago... Pittman does not remember because he was only just a kid. Furthermore, if the best players in-state leave Nebraska, this program could be trending downward...
For now, Miami will have to battle with LSU to try and flip Pittman away from Nebraska this offseason.
