It's going to take a team effort for the Miami Hurricanes to land 5-star offensive lineman Mark Matthews and quarterback commit Israel Abrams is doing his part.
Abrams, one of the top quarterbacks in the 2027 class, committed to the Hurricanes on April 3 and his interest in Miami landing Matthews is two-fold. Obviously, he wants the Hurricanes to have one of the best collections of talent in college football because more talent equals more wins, but Abrams is also thinking about self-preservation and having a stud offensive lineman in the huddle makes life a lot easier for a quarterback.
Yes sir @mark95matthews . Let’s go fam 🙌🏾 @CanesFootball https://t.co/2wHTVamxTh

QB commit Israel Abrams is helping recruit 5-star Mark Matthews to Miami
Matthews' recruitment is going to take some tough skin because the roller coaster promises to be a wild one. At first, it seemed like Mario Cristobal's plan to dominate local recruiting was going to culminate with the commitment of Matthews sometime during the spring. The high school All-American was at nearly all the big Hurricanes recruiting events and there was never a question about how big of a priority Matthews was for Cristobal and offensive line coach Alex Mirabal.
Then Texas A&M jumped in and started tossing that oil money around. It didn't seem like the Aggies were going to be the team Miami really had to worry about until they got Matthews on campus and turned what we thought was a Hurricanes lean into a legit 50/50 race. Then all the predictions for Matthews started flipping to the Aggies in a shocking turn of events. What looked like a sure thing two months ago was about to become one of the biggest disappointments for Cristobal during this cycle.
The good news is Matthews appears to be ready to take a step back and reassess. He's going to take his official trip to Miami on May 29 and probably schedule a visit to Texas A&M as well and go from there. Cristobal and MIrabal have done enough to get the Hurricanes back in the race, and now they are getting help from their top commits, like Abrams, to try and bring him home.
