Some huge, just fantastic news arrived for the Miami Hurricanes on Friday night, as TCU offensive lineman James Brockermeyer announced that he's going to be Coral Gables-bounds for the 2025 season. Just like that, Miami has its new starting center for next fall.
That's a massive transfer addition for head coach Mario Cristobal, but he's not done making moves in the portal. As most fans know by now, USC wide receiver transfer Zachariah Branch was in town this week for an official visit and Miami made quite the impact on him. With that said, Cristobal must do whatever is needed to make sure he lands his signature too.
Miami potentially landing WR Zachariah Branch would be epic for Mario Cristobal
According to multiple reports, the Hurricanes are putting the full-court press in trying to get Branch to commit. It's no surprise they're putting in so much effort, as Branch is a fantastic talent and he's the top WR transfer available in the portal.
While Miami would love to get him to suit up for the Hurricanes, there's some stiff competition. Most notably, it looks like the Tennessee Volunteers are doing everything possible to get Branch to Knoxville for an official visit soon.
Tennessee has seen five WRs enter the portal this offseason - the team needs some help brought in for star quarterback Nico Iamaleava. The Vols are yet to lock in a visit date, however, and Miami just turned Branch's head during his mid-week trip. Georgia and Arizona State are also involved here.
Soon enough, we should find out where Branch will be taking his talents to next, but countless people all over Florida would love to see the speedster make plays for Cristobal. There's going to be a completely different look on offense for this team next season, but adding someone of Branch's caliber would make the world of difference. Will Miami be able to win this recruiting battle? We sure hope so.
