There's always a good and bad side to losing someone on the staff because they got a promotion. On one hand, it's always tough to lose a valued member of the staff, but on the other hand, it shows that you hired the right person, and they did a great job.

The Miami Hurricanes will lose Devontay Love-Taylor, who spent the past season as the Director of Player Personnel for the football program, to East Carolina where he will take the GM job for the Pirates.

Miami football loses significant cog in front office machine

Love-Taylor is just 27 years old, and his reputation has grown quickly after positive stints with Arizona State and Miami. He was the Director of Scouting with the Sun Devils and had a big hand in helping put together some pieces of the Sun Devils roster that eventually won the Big 12, including bringing in Sacramento State transfer running back Cam Skattebo in 2023.

He joined Miami in 2024 as the Assistant Director of Player Personnel and was promoted to Director of Player Personnel in 2025. Love-Taylor was a major part of the Hurricanes roster build that led to their appearance in the CFP Championship game this past season.

There's no question that the Hurricanes front office is among the best in the country, and it's probably the most understated part of the current success that the football program is having. Losing someone like Love-Taylor is bound to happen and for him to already be elevated to a GM role shows exactly how much he's regarded in the college football world.

Love-Taylor played high school football for Mitchell High in New Port Richey, Florida and was part of the 2016 recruiting class for FIU. He played four seasons for the Panthers before transferring to Florida State in 2020. Love-Taylor made the Honorable Mention All-ACC for the Seminoles in 2021.
