Miami, Mario Cristobal will be hosting in-state 4-star QB for crucial visit this week

If Mario Cristobal can crush it in Florida, in addition to the transfer portal, Miami should always win.

The Miami Hurricanes have an interesting in-state prospect coming to Coral Gables for a visit later this week. That is right. Four-star quarterback Davin Davidson out of Cardinal Mooney in Sarasota will be in attendance for Miami's 305 Day on Thursday. While Miami has made a killing in the transfer portal quarterback market in recent years, this program was built by recruiting South Florida so well.

Gaby Urrutia of 247Sports was all over the news of Davidson planning on being with Miami Thursday.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Davidson is the No. 22 player from Florida, the No. 18 quarterback in the country, and the No. 191 overall player nationally in the 2027 recruiting cycle. Davidson has 27 official offers including ones from Auburn, Cal, Duke, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, and Georgia Tech, in addition to Miami. What would it mean if Miami landed Davidson in this cycle?

While Miami could get land a better quarterback for 2027, keeping players in-state is so important.

One of the things that makes Miami so unique as a program is how well the high school players from Brevard and Miami-Dade Counties rally when it comes to playing for the Hurricanes. While Sarasota County is on the other side of the Floridian Peninsula, it is imperative that Cristobal does not let Davidson walk and play for another rival in-state. Florida and Florida State have offered him already...

Fortunately, Cristobal knows the importance of recruiting close to home. Again, Miami was built up as a program in the 1980s through mid-2000s on the backs of high-end local products. After all, he is one of them. The former Christopher Columbus standout ended up playing for The U in the very early 1990s before embarking on his successful coaching career. Will Davidson have a place on this team?

In truth, for as fruitful as Carson Beck and Cam Ward were for Miami coming out of the transfer portal, as well as the allure of what Darian Mensah could be bringing with him from Duke by way of Tulane, it would not be shocking to see Cristobal's staff continue to recruit portal-heavy at the game's most important position. That being said, Miami is at its best when the local guys are starring for the team.

Miami is still a long way away from landing Davidson's four-star commitment, but this is a huge start.
