Miami outscored Notre Dame 13-1 to start the second half in an 81-69 win on Tuesday night in South Bend. The Hurricanes won their 10th straight for the first time since 2017 and are tied for first place in the ACC at 4-0 with Clemson and Duke. Miami is 15-2.
Miami had good balance with Tre Donaldson scoring 23 points to lead four players in double figures. Shelton Henderson and Malik Reneau scored 17 points and Dante Allen had 11. Reneau led Miami with 11 rebounds.
Notre Dame got off to a fast start by scoring the first six points of the game. That was the largest lead for Notre Dame. Miami had a 10-2 run to surge in front after that. Miami led for most of the first half after that with the margin as large as seven. The Fighting Irish and Hurricanes were tied at 39 at halftime.
Notre Dame held its last lead, 35-34 with 2:43 left in the first half. Miami led for the entire second half after the big run out of halftime. The biggest lead for the Hurricanes was 71-58 with 4:08 left in the game.
How Miami beat Notre Dame
Notre Dame was led by Jalen Haralson with 18 points and Sir Mohammed with 15 as the only players in double figures for the Fighting Irish. Miami had a 40-28 advantage in points in the paint, outscored Notre Dame 13-2 in fast break points and had a 19-6 edge in points off turnovers as significant reasons for the win.
Miami has started ACC play with four consecutive wins for the first time since it last won the conference during its 2023 Final Four season. Clemson will host Miami in an early game for first place in the ACC. Miami returns home to host Florida State on January 20.
