In her article "At Miami, Carson Beck isn't 'trying to be Superman' anymore" Andrea Adelson of ESPN interviewed Miami offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson about what the quarterback for the Hurricanes needs to work on.

Dawson mentioned because of the pressure generated against Georgia in 2024, Beck is going through his reads really quickly and missing some of the intermediate passing game. Dawson wants Beck to trust his progressions and the protection.

Adelson highlighted that Beck is facing less pressure than he did in 2024 with Georgia and has more time to throw. Beck told Adelson he is at his best when given time to dissect defenses. Beck's production regressed in 2024 due to facing more pressure in the pocket and dropped passes from his receivers.

Beck is playing behind a Miami offensive line that is ninth nationally with a 81.0 passing blocking grade from Pro Football Focus. Dawson spoke earlier this week about the progressions Beck made against Florida and that overall, he had a solid performance against the Gators.

"Because they were getting a lot of pressure on him last year at Georgia, he is getting through his reads really quick and we're missing a little bit of the intermediate passing game with that...My theme is this: Trust your progression and trust the protection."

Miami chose to play complementary football against Florida with the Gators struggling on offense and heavy rain throughout most of the game. As the title of Adelson's article states, Beck does not have to be Superman for Miami.

Beck is part of a Miami offense that had to rebuild its passing game from 2024. Former Miami QB Cam Ward became the first pick in the 2025 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans and the Hurricanes lost their top six receivers from 2024.

Beck quickly built a rapport with C.J. Daniels and Malachi Toney. Keelan Marion had six receptions for 81 yards against South Florida and is the third leading receiver for Miami. Trusting more than Daniels and Toney should help Beck in his progressions.

Involving tight ends more would also help improve the Miami intermediate passing game. Miami TEs have 14 receptions for 152 yards without a TD in 2025. Elija Lofton had four receptions for 43 yards against Florida in a bit of a breakout game in 2025. The more diversified Miami becomes in the passing game will also help Beck.
