Miami head coach Jai Lucas announced on Friday that the Hurricanes have hired Andrew Moran as an assistant coach and director of player development. Moran joins the Hurricanes' staff after a 145-34 record as the head coach for the last six years at Miami Columbus.

Columbus won the last four 7A Florida State Championships led by Cameron and Cayden Boozer. Moran was named the 2025 Naismith National High School Boys Basketball Coach of the Year while leading Columbus to the 2025 Chipotle High School Basketball Nationals.

Lucas was the primary recruiter for Cameron and Cayden Boozer as an assistant coach at Duke before being hired by Miami on March 10. Now, Lucas and Moran will coach against the Boozer twins next season when they play for head coach Jon Scheyer and Duke.

Moran also works on skill development privately as part of the Miami Hoop School that he founded in 2009. According to their website, the Miami Hoop Academy has worked with "NBA All-Stars, College and High School All-Americans, to youth players."

Moran is the second head coach hired by Lucas. Erik Pastrana joined the Miami coaching staff from Georgia last month. Like Moran, Pastrana also has South Florida ties. When he was hired, Lucas discussed the importance of keeping the best players from Florida in-state.

Moran and Pastrana will give Lucas two assistant coaches with deep ties in Florida and allow Miami to focus on keeping the best players in-state. Miami added Florida natives Tre Donaldson and Malik Reneau through the transfer portal last week. Lucas, Moran and Pastrana still have a lot of work to continue filling out the 2025-26 Miami roster.

Donaldson, Reneau and Ernest Udeh Jr. are the only three players Miami currently has on its 2025-26 roster. Miami has 12 more scholarships available to fill out the roster for 2025-26. Moran will be busy early in his tenure as a Miami assistant coach.
