Andrew Moran, a newly appointed assistant coach for the University of Miami men's basketball team, has recently led Christopher Columbus High School to its first-ever national championship. Under Moran's guidance, the Columbus Explorers secured a decisive 67-49 victory over Dynamic Prep in the 2025 Chipotle High School Basketball Nationals.

Moran's coaching journey at Columbus began in 2019. Over six seasons, he amassed an impressive record of 136-32, leading the team to four consecutive state championships from 2022 to 2025.  In the last four seasons, Columbus has a record of 107-13. His exceptional leadership was recognized in March 2025 when he was named the Naismith National High School Boys Basketball Coach of the Year.

Cayden Boozer led the team with 27 points, while his twin brother, Cameron Boozer, contributed 11 points and eight rebounds. Marcellous Jackson added 12 points, and Jaxon Richardson secured a game-high 12 rebounds.

Moran's success at the high school level has paved the way for his transition to collegiate coaching. He is set to join the Miami Hurricanes coaching staff under new head coach Jai Lucas.  This move is expected to strengthen the Hurricanes' recruiting efforts, particularly with tapping into local talent.

Moran's connections and experience in the Miami basketball scene are anticipated to be huge assets to the program. Prior to his time at Columbus, Moran previously led Miami Christian to the 2015 state championship. Lucas and Moran have a connection as Lucas was the primary recruiter for Cameron and Cayden Boozer to go to Duke. Reports indicate that the Boozer twins are still set on playing for the Blue Devils and Lucas has turned a lot of his focus to the transfer portal.

Moran's departure marks the end of a significant chapter for the Explorers, but his legacy is expected to have a lasting impact on the program.
