Alabama commit and class of 2027 cornerback, Nash Johnson, checked out the Hurricanes during spring practice today. Miami also already has an official visit lined up with Johnson for June 5.

Miami is trying to flip Alabama CB commit Nash Johnson

Miami offered Johnson on Oct. 5, 2025, just one day after he committed to Alabama. He is still committed to the Crimson Tide, but the Hurricanes have stayed involved long enough to get him back to campus this spring and onto the official visit schedule for early June.

Johnson's stop in Coral Gables was his first Miami visit and it may have created some momentum, which is exactly what Miami is looking for.

Per the 247Sports Composite, Johnson is the No. 540 overall prospect in the 2027 class, the No. 54 cornerback and the No. 62 player in Georgia.

Johnson posted 19 total tackles, multiple pass breakups and an interception during his junior season at McEachern. He transferred to McEachern ahead of the 2025 season.

Johnson has official visits scheduled to Auburn on May 29, Miami on June 5, Tennessee on June 12 and Ole Miss on June 19. He also made an unofficial trip to Tennessee earlier this month, so Miami is not the only program trying to test Alabama's hold here.

Miami's defense went through a massive change last season

Corey Hetherman has changed Miami's defense since his arrival. After a poor 2024, the Hurricanes finished No. 5 nationally in scoring defense, No. 12 in total defense, No. 6 in rushing defense and No. 4 in sacks in 2025.

That kind of jump is attractive to defensive recruits because it clearly shows that Hetherman knows what he's doing. And it also doesn't hurt that Miami is sending multiple starters from its defense last year to the NFL draft.
