Miami avoids Friday night time slot late in season
The change is excellent news for Miami because of where the Virginia Tech game sits on the schedule. The Hurricanes host Duke on Saturday, Nov. 14, then turn around and host the Hokies the following week before closing the regular season against Boston College on Nov. 28.
Under the original setup, Miami would have gone from Duke on Nov. 14 to Virginia Tech on Friday, Nov. 20. That would have been a shortened game week late in the season, right after a matchup with the defending ACC champion.
Now the Hurricanes get the normal Saturday-to-Saturday set up and the fans get a major win.
A Friday night home game can be fun, but when it's in late November against a conference opponent... well, that is a different story. Moving Virginia Tech to Saturday also makes it easier for fans to travel, tailgate and fill Hard Rock Stadium without dealing with a workday rush. That is going to be crucial as VT is expected to make a jump under new HC James Franklin.
Miami has seven home games on the 2026 schedule. The Hurricanes host Florida A&M, Central Michigan, Florida State, Pittsburgh, Duke, Virginia Tech and Boston College. They play road games at Stanford, Wake Forest, Clemson, North Carolina and Notre Dame.
Virginia Tech finished 3-9 overall and 2-6 in ACC play last season. Miami beat the Hokies 34-17 in Blacksburg on Nov. 22, 2025, behind 418 total yards, 320 passing yards and four touchdowns from Carson Beck, and 12 catches for 146 yards and a touchdown from Malachi Toney.
That win was Miami's fifth straight over Virginia Tech dating back to 2020. The Hurricanes jumped ahead early, led 20-3 at halftime and controlled the game even after the Hokies cut the deficit in the second half.
