Miami's NCAA tournament path starts Friday night in Gainesville. The Hurricanes will open the Gainesville Regional against No. 3 seed Troy at 6 p.m. at Condron Family Ballpark, with host Florida and Rider playing the first game earlier in the day.

Miami's postseason path begins in Gainesville

Miami enters the regional as the No. 2 seed after earning the program's 51st NCAA tournament appearance. The Gainesville field includes No. 1 seed and No. 8 national seed Florida, No. 2 seed Miami, No. 3 seed Troy and No. 4 seed Rider. The regional is double elimination, so Friday's winner moves into the winner's bracket Saturday night, while the loser faces an immediate elimination game Saturday afternoon.

The Friday schedule gives Florida and Rider the 1 p.m. opener before Miami and Troy meet at 6 p.m. Florida’s regional page lists Miami-Troy for ACC Network, while Miami’s release listed ESPN+ and WVUM 90.5 FM. The safest wording is that the game is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, with broadcast information available through the official regional listing.

This is Miami's first NCAA tournament game under J.D. Arteaga this season after a 38-18 campaign that included a 16-14 ACC record and a run to the ACC tournament semifinals.

The Trojans are 32-29, but they own the No. 35 RPI, only five spots behind Miami at No. 30.

Troy earned its way in through one of the toughest schedules in the country. The Trojans had the nation's No. 6 strength of schedule and No. 1 non-conference strength of schedule. They jumped from No. 67 to No. 35 in RPI during May after wins over South Alabama, Southern Miss, Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana and Texas State.

The Hurricanes are hitting .304 as a team with a .403 on-base percentage, .497 slugging percentage, 79 home runs and 445 RBIs.

Derek Williams leads Miami with a .376 average, 15 home runs, 66 RBIs and a 1.139 OPS. Alex Sosa gives the Hurricanes another dangerous middle-of-the-order bat with a .332 average, 17 home runs and 66 RBIs. Dylan Dubovik, Alonzo Alvarez, Jake Ogden, Daniel Cuvet and Brylan West all enter the regional hitting .304 or better.

Troy has allowed opponents to hit .277 with 67 home runs and a .370 on-base percentage. The Trojans' staff has struck out 529 hitters.

The Trojans are hitting .285 with a .395 on-base percentage, .471 slugging percentage and 78 home runs. They have scored 412 runs in 61 games.

They are led by sophomore catcher Jimmy Janicki. He was the Sun Belt Player of the Year after leading the conference with 17 home runs and 73 RBIs while ranking 11th nationally with 22 doubles. He is hitting .350 with a .663 slugging percentage and 159 total bases.

Aaron Piasecki is another top player for them. He is hitting .338 with a .455 on-base percentage, nine home runs and 42 RBIs. Drew Nelson is hitting .311, Steven Meier is at .309, and Blake Cavill gives Troy another offensive threat with 12 home runs and 44 RBIs.

Miami's Rob Evans is potentially the Game 1 option, with a 10-3 record, 3.16 ERA, 94 strikeouts and a 1.08 WHIP in 82 2/3 innings. AJ Ciscar is another starter with postseason experience, but he took the loss against Georgia Tech after allowing six runs, five earned, in 3 2/3 innings.

Troy has a proven starter to lean on in Benjamin Stubbs, who has logged 79 innings across 15 starts after transferring from Division II Flagler.
