The Hurricanes' season ended Sunday with a 9-6 loss to Troy in an NCAA Tournament elimination game at Condron Family Ballpark. It was a painful finish after Miami built a 6-2 lead and then watched the Trojans take control with seven unanswered runs.

After opening the Gainesville Regional with a late 10-5 win over Troy, Miami lost back-to-back games to Florida and Troy and left the regional short of the championship round.

Miami loses to Troy and season comes to an end

The Hurricanes trailed 2-0 after three innings, then finally broke through in the fourth. Alex Sosa homered to center to score Max Galvin and tie the game. Gabriel Milano followed later in the inning with a two-run single that brought home Alonzo Alvarez and Dylan Dubovik, giving Miami a 4-2 lead.

Miami pushed the lead to 6-2 in the fifth. Galvin homered to right, and Sosa doubled to right to score Derek Williams.

The Trojans answered immediately. Drew Nelson drove in Josh Pyne on a fielder's choice in the bottom of the fifth. Jabe Boroff homered in the sixth. A wild pitch brought home Houston Markham later in the inning, and Jimmy Janicki tied it with a sacrifice fly to left.

By the end of the sixth, Miami's four-run lead was gone. And the seventh inning ended the Hurricanes' season.

Boroff hit his second home run of the game to give Troy a 7-6 lead. Markham followed with a home run to right center, stretching the Trojans' lead to 8-6. Troy then added one more run in the eighth to make it 9-6.

Miami finished with 11 hits and two home runs, but it did not score after the fifth inning. Troy had 15 hits and four home runs.

Miami entered the regional as the No. 2 seed and had enough talent to make a real run at Florida. Instead, the Hurricanes went 1-2 in Gainesville and finished the season at 39-20.

Now the focus shifts to what comes next for J.D. Arteaga's program. Miami will have roster decisions, draft questions and transfer portal movement to sort through after a season that showed promise but ended with two straight losses in Gainesville.
