4-star LB Aston Whiteside flips to Miami
Whiteside visited Miami for the Hurricanes' 43-35 win over Florida State on Saturday. He joins four-star linebackers A.J. Randle Jr. and Noah Glover in Miami's 2027 class. Rivals ranks Whiteside at No. 254 nationally and No. 21 among linebackers, and No. 376 nationally and No. 31 among linebackers in its Industry Ranking.
As a senior at Burleson Centennial, Whiteside has recorded 91 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, four sacks and one forced fumble through seven games.
Last season at Lovejoy High School, he finished with 46 tackles, three tackles for loss and one forced fumble. He has also posted a 4.64-second 40-yard dash, a 10-foot-3 broad jump and a 31-inch vertical.
Whiteside's father played professionally in the NFL and CFL. Aston Whiteside Sr. played defensive end at Abilene Christian from 2008 to 2011. He earned first-team All-Lone Star Conference South honors in all four seasons, was named LSC South Defensive Lineman of the Year three times and LSC South Defensive Player of the Year as a senior, and recorded 31.5 career sacks.
After going undrafted in 2012, he signed with the Dallas Cowboys and later spent time on the practice squads of the Chicago Bears and Cincinnati Bengals. He then played four seasons in the CFL with the Toronto Argonauts, Ottawa Redblacks and Calgary Stampeders, and was part of the Redblacks' 2016 Grey Cup championship team.
At Vernon High School, he rushed for 1,934 yards and 24 touchdowns as a senior fullback while also playing outside linebacker.
The No. 1 Miami Hurricanes welcome in the Pitt Panthers to Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday.
