Miami and Stanford have met once in their history on the field. That game was Oct. 25, 2025, at Hard Rock Stadium. No. 9 Miami won 42-7 after Stanford joined the ACC. The Hurricanes trailed 7-0 after one quarter, tied it at 7-7 by halftime, then scored 35 points to shut the door on the Cardinal.
Mark Fletcher Jr. ran for 106 yards and three touchdowns that night, while Carson Beck completed 21 of 28 passes for 189 yards and a score to C.J. Daniels. Jordan Lyle and Girard Pringle Jr. also rushed for touchdowns as Miami piled up 404 yards and five rushing scores. Stanford’s only touchdown came on its opening drive, when Ben Gulbranson found Caden High for the endzone. Gulbranson finished 9 of 21 passing with two interceptions after that clean start, and Cole Tabb led the Cardinal with 64 rushing yards in a 144-yard night on offense.
What's changed for Miami
Beck is gone, and Darian Mensah will make his Hurricanes debut after throwing for 3,973 yards and 34 touchdowns at Duke last season. Cooper Barkate, who caught 72 passes for 1,106 yards as Mensah's top target in Durham, followed him to Coral Gables and joins Malachi Toney (109 receptions and 1,211 receiving yards last year). Fletcher returns for his senior season after rushing for 1,192 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Matthew McCoy is the only returning offensive line starter. The defensive front is different as well. Rueben Bain Jr. and Akheem Mesidor were first-round NFL picks. Miami added Missouri edge rusher Damon Wilson II to help replace them and still has Ahmad Moten Sr. back inside.
What's changed for Stanford
The Cardinal have a new head coach and front office. Frank Reich was the interim coach last October when they played Miami. General manager Andrew Luck, now in his second year with hiring-and-firing authority, installed former Stanford quarterback, and teammate, Tavita Pritchard as the permanent coach in December. Pritchard spent three seasons as the Washington Commanders' quarterbacks coach. Offensive coordinator Terry Heffernan and defensive coordinator Kris Richard are new as well. Stanford also added Tyler Jones as AD/COO of athletics.
Gulbranson has graduated, and Michigan transfer Davis Warren is the new quarterback after sitting out 2025 following an ACL tear in the ReliaQuest Bowl. Warren made his Cardinal debut last week against Hawaii, completing 22 of 34 passes for 310 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions.
Tabb, Stanford's leading rusher against Miami, transferred to Cincinnati, leaving Micah Ford as the featured back. Ford managed 643 yards in an injury-interrupted 2025 and looked healthier in Week 0, running for 99 yards and three touchdowns against Hawaii.
