Five-Star Plus offensive tackle Mark Matthews will announce his commitment Friday, May 15, choosing between Miami, LSU, Texas A&M and Georgia.

Matthews, a St. Thomas Aquinas standout from Fort Lauderdale, is one of the highest-ranked players in the country and the type of class-defining offensive line recruit that Mario Cristobal and Alex Mirabal have been chasing.

Miami gets decision date for 5-star OT Mark Matthews

Matthews measures in at 6 foot 5 and 301 pounds, and holds a Rivals' 98.42 rating. Rivals ranks him No. 6 nationally, No. 1 among offensive tackles and No. 1 in Florida. 247Sports is also extremely high on him, ranking him as the No. 3 overall prospect, No. 1 offensive tackle and No. 1 player in Florida. ESPN has him No. 11 overall, No. 3 among offensive tackles, No. 5 in the region and No. 1 in Florida.

Matthews plays at St. Thomas Aquinas and the Hurricanes have built their current recruiting identity around offensive line development. Cristobal and Mirabal have never hidden how much they value the trenches and Matthews is perfect for their plan.

The Hurricanes already have multiple offensive line commitments in the 2027 class, including Sean Tatum and Tyler Ford.

Texas A&M and Miami have generated the most momentum heading into Matthews' decision, with the Aggies looking to be in the lead currently, and Miami pushing hard to change that. The Rivals Recruiting Prediction Machine has Texas A&M at 95.4%, with Miami at 1.9%.

If Miami lands Matthews, it would be one of the biggest recruiting wins of the Cristobal era. The Hurricanes have already built a strong 2027 class with five-star cornerback Donte Wright, five-star wide receiver Nick Lennear and five-star quarterback Israel Abrams. If Miami lands Matthews, the Canes would be adding another five-star recruit and a potential game-changing tackle for the next few years.
