A'mir Sears has one goal with the Miami Hurricanes, and it's the one shared by every player and fan of the program.
"Let's go win the natty," Sears exclaimed as he put on a Miami hat and gold chain with the "U" logo in an announcement that was streamed live on the CBS Sports Network HQ. The five-star athlete didn't waste any time with theatrics or teases. He reached into a brown bag and pulled out the Hurricanes hat to the roar of the crowd at Dick's House of Sport in Miami. Canes fans as a whole are pretty dang fired up over this news.
Sears chose Miami over Michigan, which was identified as the program that made the strongest late charge in his recruitment. LSU and Texas A&M were also in his final group, but we had a feeling this was a lock for Miami and Cristobal to get some good news.

Relationships proved to be the key for Miami landing the No. 1 athlete in the country and its fifth recruit with a five-star ranking. Sears spoke about being on the same team with players that he's competed with and against from the youth leagues to high school and learning under the watchful eye of the Hurricanes coaching staff.
“Really just the guy that he is,” Sears said about why he wants to play for Mario Cristobal. “He’s always just authentic, and all that he's about is winning. He’s going to do whatever it takes to win and try to get back in that national championship spot and hopefully come out on top this year, so really just watching them do what they do, and then get on campus and do what I do with them. This really is a blessing.”
Sears has been a target that Cristobal has coveted for the past two years. Miami offered Sears when he was on campus for a Junior Day event in July 2024 and the staff had earmarked him as their primary top target for the 2028 class. But just recently, Sears decided to reclassify when he transferred from West Broward to Christopher Columbus High School and push up his announcement date.

Sears' commitment pushes Miami's class to No. 2 on 247Sports, behind Texas A&M. The Hurricanes' class is rated third in Rivals/On3 behind the Aggies and Notre Dame. While fans may wonder how many more five-star recruits need to commit to Miami for the class to be rated No.1, there's no question about the quality of players Cristobal has successfully landed this cycle.

The Hurricanes have the highest average-per-commit of any program in the country and the staff might not be done yet. No one should doubt Cristobal's ability to send shock waves across the landscape and this Sears news proves that.
