New 5-star Miami commit doubles down on his Georgia flip for Mario Cristobal

It did not take long for this new Miami commit to tell the world exactly what Mario Cristobal wanted.

It is over! After flipping from Georgia to Miami over the weekend, five-star cornerback Donte Wright is shutting it down. The new Miami commit announced over social media on Monday afternoon that he has no intentions to re-open his recruitment. The Long Beach, California native could have potentially been flipped again by Oregon, USC, or some other West Coast school, but that is no longer the case...

Wright clearly wants to be part of the best recruiting class in the country coming out of high school.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Wright is the No. 1 player from California, the No. 2 cornerback in the country, and the No. 9 overall prospect in the 2027 recruiting cycle. It should be noted that prior to this rather direct message on X, Wright had five official visits lined up in May and June: UCLA (May 15), Georgia (May 29), Miami (June 5), Michigan (June 12), and Oregon (June 19).

If we were to connect the dots here, Wright is not going to UCLA, Georgia, Michigan, or Oregon now...

New Miami 5-star commit Donte Wright has shut down his recruitment

While Miami was the latest of these five schools of interest to offer Wright, the Hurricanes did want to make him part of this team nearly a year ago. He was offered by Mario Cristobal's staff on May 22, 2025. A little more than a month later, Wright committed to Georgia on June 30, 2025. He had been committed to Georgia for nearly a year prior to flipping to Miami on May 9. Could Wright flip again?

Miami fans may not want to hear this, but it is not out of the realm of possibility that Wright could potentially flip again. While it seems as though he has no interest playing for Georgia, maybe a handful of West Coast schools could tickle his fancy? Oregon and UCLA have been in on him for a while, but if and when USC gets its collective stuff together, that could be very interesting for Wright...

In the end, we have to take the man at his word. He is heading into his senior season of high school in his native Long Beach. All things equal, he should be staying home to play his college football in the Southern California branch of the Big Ten. Unfortunately for UCLA and USC, neither program has the momentum to flip him presently. In weeks and months, maybe, but not right now. He is all about The U!

Let's keep our eyes peeled for the next biggest development in the world of Miami football recruiting.
