Miami pulls five-star CB Donte Wright away from Georgia in 2027 class
Wright is the No. 8 overall prospect, No. 2 cornerback and No. 1 player in California in the 2027 Rivals Industry Ranking. The 247Sports Composite has him at No. 9 nationally, No. 2 among cornerbacks and No. 1 in California, while 247Sports' in-house ranking lists him as the No. 10 overall player and No. 2 cornerback in the class.
Miami had already built a strong 2027 foundation before Wright's flip. The Hurricanes had the No. 11 class nationally and No. 1 class in the ACC in the Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. The group included five-star wide receiver Nick Lennear, five-star quarterback Israel Abrams, interior offensive lineman Sean Tatum, defensive lineman Ezekiel Ayangbile and running back Ty Keys among the top pieces.
Before Wright's flip, Miami's 2027 class already included McArthur defensive backs Jaylyn Jones and Sherrod Gourdine.
Wright finished his junior season with 25 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, seven pass breakups, two sacks and one forced fumble in seven games. He had 23 tackles, five pass breakups and one interception as a sophomore after getting varsity snaps as a freshman.
Miami has recent history pulling committed players away from Georgia
Cristobal has Kirby Smart looking over his shoulder on the recruiting trail.
In the 2026 cycle, the Hurricanes flipped four-star cornerback Jontavius Wyman from the Bulldogs in April 2025 after Wyman had been committed to Georgia since the previous July.
Miami also flipped four-star wide receiver Vance Spafford from Georgia in June 2025. Spafford had been Georgia's longest-tenured commitment in that class before switching to Miami.
