New York Jets rookie offensive guard Anez Cooper earned the highest Pro Football Focus grade among the team's offensive players in the preseason opener.
Cooper, a sixth-round pick out of Miami, recorded a 90.9 overall grade from PFF after the Jets' 24-16 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Friday night.

He graded 89.5 as a run blocker and 85.2 in pass protection while allowing zero pressures on 20 pass-block snaps. The 6-foot-5, 334-pound interior lineman started at right guard for four seasons with the Hurricanes, earning second-team All-ACC honors in 2025.

The Jets' offensive line is viewed as one of the stronger units on the roster heading into the 2026 season (and that might be one of the only bright spots for them this season). The projected starting five includes left tackle Olu Fashanu, left guard Dylan Parham, center Josh Myers, right guard Joe Tippmann and right tackle Armand Membou. Four of those five started every game together last season.
Cooper is currently the backup at right guard behind Tippmann. Depth behind the starters includes Max Mitchell, Xavier Newman and Chukwuma Okorafor.
Jets fall to Bucs 24-16 in preseason opener
Geno Smith sat out with ankle soreness, allowing fourth-round rookie Cade Klubnik to get the start. Klubnik completed 5 of 7 passes for 56 yards and led two scoring drives, helping the Jets build a 10-0 first-quarter lead.
Running back Braelon Allen capped the second drive with a 31-yard touchdown run. Backup quarterback Bailey Zappe threw two interceptions, including one returned 47 yards for a touchdown, and Tampa Bay took control in the second half.
The Jets host the Pittsburgh Steelers next Friday in their second preseason game.
