During an appearance on the Rich Eisen show on Wednesday, NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero stated Miami quarterback Carson Beck is going to go higher than every projection has for him. Pelissero said NFL teams had to sort through a lot, going back to Beck's time at Georgia.

Pelissero told Eisen, NFL teams went through what they saw on social media, things they heard from Georgia, celebrity obsessions, and Beck and Bulldogs' head coach Smart not getting along. Beck was credited by Pelissero for cleaning up his criticisms after transferring to Miami.

Beck was impressive during his meeting with coaches, per Pelissero. One scout told Pelissero that Beck "has a beautiful mind in terms of his football IQ. He knows exactly what's going on on the football field." Pelissero compared Beck to the ideal QB using Pro Football Hall of Fame coach Bill Parcells' standard.

Parcells wanted QBs who were a college graduate, a senior, at least 30 starts, 23 wins, 60 percent completion rate and a two-to-one interception ratio per Pelissero. Beck was working on a master's degree at Miami, played six seasons, won 40 games and lost six as a starter, completed 69.5 percent of his pass attempts with 68 TDs and 32 interceptions.

"There's enough teams that have a quarterback need. I would not be surprised if Carson Beck goes, I believe he will go in the second round of this draft. And there's at least a non-trivial chance again based on the fact that everybody in the back half of the first round is going to have a second round grade. I would not 100% rule out the idea of Carson Beck somehow finding his way into the bottom of round one."

Exceeding the metrics

Pelissero mentioned Beck has exceeded the Parcells metrics and has a good enough while then questioning why he would not go high in the draft. Daniel Jeremiah of NFL.Com, who also appears on the NFL Network, has Beck 74th on his big board.

Pelissero specifically mentioned the New York Jets as a potential team to watch with the first pick in the second round of the draft, as potentially selecting Beck. Other teams with needs at QB are Las Vegas, Arizona, Cleveland and Pittsburgh. Beck is praised for working "through progressions, routinely getting to his third read."

It would be surprising if Beck is selected in the first round. Beck being a day two (second or third round) selection would not be surprising. Seventy-fourth would put Beck in the middle of the third round. Miami could be restoring QB U after Cam Ward was the first selection in the 2025 NFL Draft.
