The Miami Hurricanes are making a push in the recruitment of five-star lineman Lamar Brown following his official visit to Coral Gables over the weekend. Brown, a 6-foot-4, 285-pound standout from University Lab in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, is ranked as the No. 1 defensive lineman and the No. 7 overall prospect in the 2026 class (both according to On3).
During his visit, Brown met with the Hurricanes' coaching staff for the second time in his recruitment process. The visit looks like it made a significant impact, as Brown shared on social media that "the media shouldn't sleep on Miami" regarding his recruitment.
Adding to the momentum, Miami's top offensive line commit, Jackson Cantwell β also the nation's No. 1 overall prospect in the 2026 class β publicly encouraged Brown to join the Hurricanes. In an Instagram comment on Brown's Miami visit photos, Cantwell wrote, "Make that move," to which Brown responded with eye emojis.
Recruits talk like this all the time, so conventional wisdom would say to take it with a grain of salt, but it could be something to keep an eye on. Back in March, 4-star Miami OL commit Ben Congdon made an X post recruiting Cantwell when his recruitment was open. The shot that Congdon took ended up paying off so who can blame Cantwell for taking one of his own?
Despite Miami's strong showing, the competition for Brown remains fierce. He has scheduled official visits to Florida State this weekend, Texas A&M from June 13β15 and LSU on June 20β22. LSU is currently considered a strong contender, having been heavily involved throughout Brown's recruitment.
Brown is expected to announce his college decision on July 4. If Miami could secure the commitment of Brown, the Canes' class would start to enter the conversation for the best recruiting class in the nation.
