This is just silly at this point... We are well over a week removed from the No. 10 Miami Hurricanes upsetting the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes in the Cotton Bowl. Ohio State was a multi-score favorite, but it was The U putting The Ohio State University in its place 24-14 on New Year's Eve. Ohio State was one of three teams who got a first-round bye who lost in the national quarterfinals in the playoff.
Rather than taking this loss in stride, outgoing Ohio State safety Caleb Downs decided to complain...
Caleb Downs agrees that Ohio State would have beaten Miami 9 out of 10 times.

Could Ohio State have won the whole thing if the Buckeyes would have beaten Miami? We will never know... The same principle could be applied by the Georgia Bulldogs, who lost by a lesser margin than the Buckeyes did to the Ole Miss Rebels in their Sugar Bowl rematch. You do not see Georgia players making it about themselves on the way out the door. Downs is going to be a top-10 pick, regardless...
The weirdest part in this is Downs should know better, especially after playing for Ohio State last year.
Caleb Downs will not lose in grace after Miami defeated Ohio State easily
As Miami is one win closer to playing for a national championship on its home turf, Downs and many other talented players on the 2025-26 Ohio State are preparing for the 2026 NFL Draft. Miami will be taking on Ole Miss in the Fiesta Bowl on Thursday night, with a shot at the national title bout on the line. While Downs has plenty of time to mull this heartbreaking defeat over, Miami has bigger plans...
Should Miami get past a feisty Ole Miss team in The Valley of the Sun, the Hurricanes will be playing a Big Ten behemoth in their home stadium on MLK Day. The winner of the Peach Bowl between No. 1 Indiana and No. 5 Oregon will take on the winner of the Fiesta Bowl between No. 6 Ole Miss and No. 10 Miami at Hard Rock Stadium in a little over a week. At this stage of the game, any team can win it.
To attempt to tie a bow on this, Miami has the perfect balance of brashness and poise to go deep in this year's playoff. The Hurricanes are a confident team, and they are not afraid to show it. The other thing working for them is head coach Mario Cristobal is not about to let his guys get a big head. His players buy into everything that he is saying because he is one of them. This team is incredibly close.
All that stands in the way of a national title bout for Miami would be Ole Miss and Trinidad Chambliss.
