Soon enough, we're going to find out who Miami and Mario Cristobal are going to be bringing in to replace Carson Beck for the 2026 season. Beck has been great in '25, but he's coming to the end of his Canes career. Could Demond Williams be the one to take his seat at the table?

1st domino falls for Miami and Mario Cristobal to go after stud QB

While Williams isn't officially in the transfer portal yet, he announced he was planning to leave Washington in stunning fashion this week - UW could look to take legal measures to keep him in town. Quickly, LSU has been mentioned as a potential favorite.

However, rumors are flying that Miami and Cristobal could be in play here. Insider Pete Nakos has confirmed that, opening the door himself for the Canes to work their magic in going after the standout signal-caller. Miami definitely feels like a team to watch here.

Miami football going after QB Demond Williams is certainly on the table

"Other schools to watch, I'd keep an eye on Miami," Nakos said. "Obviously, Carson Beck is going to go to the NFL. Whenever this College Football Playoff run ends, they could be in the market. They've been rumored to be in the market for Leavitt. Demond Williams and Miami could make sense as well."

So, you're saying there's a chance? As Nakos noted, there has been speculation that Cristobal could go after Sam Leavitt. The Arizona State transfer just wrapped up a visit with LSU and he's currently in Knoxville meeting with Josh Heupel and Tennessee.

Could the veteran QB also take a trip to Coral Gables? That's unknown, but how things go down there might impact what happens with Williams for 2026. Imagine if Leavitt signs with the Tigers. That could lead to Williams expanding his search for a new home, which is where Miami could come calling.

Obviously, things are a bit unknown here and Washington could just force Williams to stay in Seattle. However, with the Huskies bringing in Beau Pribula for a visit, it looks like Jedd Fisch is looking for his Plan B QB for next fall. Certain dominoes need to fall, but Miami is going to be a team to watch for Williams until he shuts down his transfer recruitment.
