ESPN picks Miami football sleeper player
Wide receiver Isaiah Horton was named by ESPN in their "Post-spring football sleeper picks to know about ahead of the 2024 season" on Thursday. Horton is projected to be the fourth receiver in the 2024 Miami rotation. At 6'4 and 205 pounds Horton is the biggest WR on the 2024 Miami roster.
Horton had 13 receptions for 168 yards and a touchdown last season. Miami quarterback Cam Ward and Horton seemed to build chemistry during the spring game. Horton could become the redzone favorite for Ward. Horton had seven receptions for first downs in 2023, four of 15 or more yards and one for more than 25 yards.
Miami will have balance at WR with Sam Brown, Jacolby George and Xavier Restrepo as the three projected starting WRs. Brown provides Miami with another bigger receiver at 6'2. George is a big-play receiver who averaged 15.16 yards per reception in 2023. Restrepo is one of the best slot receivers nationally.
Horton emerging for Miami in 2024 would make them tough to defend. On passing downs, Ward could have five options which includes tight end Elijah Arroyo. Horton was the fifth leading receiver for Miami in 2023. Expect Horton to significantly increase his numbers during the 2024 season.
"The third-year receiver caught six passes for 88 yards and a touchdown in the spring game and seems to have a natural connection with Ward. Coach Mario Cristobal praised Horton for having a great spring, and believes his emergence gives the Hurricanes yet another skill player to rely on and keep defenses off balance. At 6-4 and 205 pounds, Horton is the type of big-bodied receiver the Hurricanes have needed in their rotation. -"
