Miami football 2024 transfer portal class rankings after Mishael Powell commitment
The 2024 Miami football transfer portal class ranking depends on the recruiting website following the addition of Washington safety Mishael Powell on Wednesday night. Miami has the 27th-ranked 2024 class from 247Sports, 15th by On3 and 29th by Rivals. Powell is the ninth transfer added to the 2024 Miami roster.
Powell is the fourth-ranked 2024 transfer safety by On3. There is not a transfer portal ranking for Powell by 247Sports or Rivals. Powell is the only portal addition to the 2024 Miami roster not to receive a transfer ranking from 247Sports. Powell was a three-star prospect when he signed with Washington in 2019.
Quarterback Cam Ward is the highest-ranked 2024 Miami transfer addition. Ward is ranked 13th overall in the transfer portal by 247Sports and sixth by On3. Ward is the third-ranked QB in the 247Sports Rankings and first by On3. Fox Sports College Football analyst Joel Klatt named Ward the prize transfer QB.
Ward is the only transfer addition for Miami to receive a four-star grade from 247Sports. The other eight Miami transfer additions received a three-star grade. Only five 2024 transfers have received a five-star grade from 247 Sports. None of those five transfers are QBs.
Miami has the sixth-best transfer portal class in the ACC. Florida State is first in the ACC, followed by Louisville, North Carolina State, Syracuse and California. With consecutive top-10 signing classes, Miami has not had to rely on transfers as much as other ACC schools.
Florida State, Louisville, Syracuse and California are the only teams on the 2024 Miami football schedule that have transfer classes ranked ahead of the Hurricanes. Miami has upgraded at QB through the portal with Ward and helped fill departures on the offensive line and safety with transfer additions.
Powell and Vanderbilt transfer safety Savion Riley project to compete with 2024 signee Zaquan Patterson to be the Miami starting safeties in 2024. Indiana transfer Zach Carpenter will be the likely starting center to replace Matt Lee. NC State transfer C.J. Clark projects to be one of the Miami starting defensive tackles.
Miami has used the portal to help their signing classes but not rely on them. Mario Cristobal and his staff are building an elite roster through their signing classes. With only two full signing classes under Cristobal, Miami needs two more recruiting cycles to flip the roster. Miami shouldn't have to rely on transfers as much beginning in 2026.
