As teams across the country settle into their new conferences, the Miami Hurricanes will undoubtedly see new faces sooner rather than later.
The Canes have played against the SMU Mustangs and the California Golden Bears in the past, but the team hasn't shared a field with every team that will be in the ACC.
Unsurprisingly, the Canes have played every single team in the SEC, including the Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners.
A slight shock is that Miami has yet to face everyone in the Big Ten, which has many teams who used to share the Big East conference with the Hurricanes.
So, which FBS opponents have the Miami Hurricanes never played in the nearly 100 years of Canes football?
ACC
- Stanford Cardinal
The Stanford Cardinal are joining the ACC in 2024 after a long-tenured stay in the Pac-12. The Cardinal and the Canes have never shared a field but in 2025, the two teams will play each other in Miami.
American
- UTSA Roadrunners
- Charlotte 49ers
While the UTSA Roadrunners and Charlotte 49ers may be far from national namesakes on the college football scene, either matchup for the Canes would be entertaining and Miami could most likely walk away with the victory.
Big 12
- Iowa State Cyclones
- Utah Utes
The Utah Utes are joining a Big 12 that will look almost entirely different than it has for nearly 30 years. The Big 12/ACC matchup between the Canes and the Utes would be one for the books.
Big Ten
- Illinois Fighting Illini
- Minnesota Golden Gophers
The only two Big Ten teams that the Canes have yet to play against are the Fighting Illini and the Golden Gophers. Miami has even played Oregon, Washington, UCLA, and USC who are joining the B1G in 2024. A matchup between Illinois and Miami would certainly bring the masses to their TVs.
C-USA
- Liberty Flames
- New Mexico State Aggies
- Sam Houston Bearkats
- UTEP Miners
The Liberty Flames burst onto the national scene last season and finished the year with a bowl game against the elite Oregon Ducks. A Flames vs. Canes game not only sounds good but would be incredible.
Independent
- Massachusetts Minutemen
The Canes have a 12-18 overall record against independent FBS programs having played UConn, Army, and Notre Dame in the past. The only independent team that Miami hasn't played is Massachusetts.
Mid-American
- Ohio Bobcats
- Bowling Green Falcons
- Buffalo Bulls
- Akron Zips
- Kent State Golden Flashes
- Eastern Michigan Eagles
- Western Michigan Broncos
- Ball State Cardinals
while the Mid-American conference isn't known for its dominance in college football, the Canes have played a handful of games against Miami (OH), all of which the Hurricanes won. A matchup against fellow Ohio team, the Bobcats, could make for an interesting clash between unfamiliar foes.
Mountain West
- Boise State Broncos
- Wyoming Cowboys
- Fresno State Bulldogs
- Hawai’i Rainbow Warriors
- New Mexico Lobos
For a coastal home-and-home series, a couple of games between the Miami Hurricanes and the Hawai'i Rainbow Warriors would make for an intriguing and entertaining new rivalry.
Pac-12
- Oregon State Beavers
The Pac-12 is suddenly comprised of just two teams; the Washington State Cougars and the Oregon State Beavers. The Canes are 0-1 against the Cougars but have never seen the Beavers in action.
Sun Belt
- James Madison Dukes
- Coastal Carolina Chanticleers
- Old Dominion Monarchs
- Georgia State Panthers
- Texas State Bobcats
- South Alabama Jaguars
- Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns
- UL Monroe Warhawks
Similar to the Liberty Flames, the James Madison Dukes made a name for themselves in the 2023-24 season, finishing the year at 11-2 overall, and would be a perfect matchup for the Miami Hurricanes.
