Remaining Regular Season Games Between Teams In CFP Top 25 Rankings

There are 16 games remaining in the regular season between teams in the initial 2025 College Football Playoff rankings released on Tuesday night.

There are three games this weekend between teams that are in the inaugural 2025 College Football Playoff rankings. Miami is 18th in the CFP rankings. Miami is one of 16 games remaining this season between teams that are currently in the CFP rankings.

The only hope for Miami to earn a CFP berth is to win out and hope multiple teams lose ahead of them. Miami plays at 24th-ranked Pittsburgh in the final regular-season game on November 29. Syracuse and North Carolina State are at Miami in the final two home games of the season on Saturday and November 15.

Miami plays its penultimate road game of the 2025 regular season at Virginia Tech on November 22. The ESPN Football Power Index has Miami 12th in its ratings. Miami has a 1.7 percent chance of winning the ACC, according to ESPN FPI.

ACC teams are bunched up in the CFP Rankings. Virginia is the highest-ranked team in the CFP rankings at 14th, followed by Louisville at 15, Georgia Tech and 17, then Miami and the dropoff to Pittsburgh after that.

With 16 games remaining between teams in the CFP rankings, a lot of chaos can still occur. The games that are critical for Miami are any involving Notre Dame and other two-loss teams. Notre Dame, Texas, Oklahoma, Utah and Vanderbilt are two-loss teams ranked ahead of Miami.

Miami would likely have to move up to 10th in the final rankings after the conference championship games to be safely secure a CFP berth. Miami was 13th in the final 2024 CFP rankings. Sixteenth-ranked Clemson earned a 2024 CFP berth when it defeated SMU in the ACC Championship Game.

Arizona State was not in the first two 2024 CFP rankings. Clemson rose from 23rd to earn a CFP berth. Arizona State and Clemson won their conference titles to earn automatic berths to the CFP. Barring multiple collapses, Miami will not play in the ACC Championship Game.

Miami was fourth in the initial 2024 CFP rankings. Nine of the top 12 teams in the initial 2024 CFP rankings did not earn a playoff berth. Ninth-ranked BYU and number 11 Alabama also missed the 2024 CFP after appearing in the initial rankings. There will likely be changes over the next four weeks when the final CFP is released on December 7.
