Rueben Bain Jr. had to admit the truth -- Michael Irvin has been a great mentor...and he's also completely out of his mind.

Bain gave Rich Eisen a small idea of the relationship that the future first-roiund pick and the legendary Pro Football Hall of Fame wide receiver have and it's everything you would expect.

Anyone surprised? I didn't think so.

Rueben Bain Jr. shares funny thoughts on Michael Irvin

There's no more committed champion to the current Hurricane players than Irvin. He'll put belt to behind of every opponent they beat and try to sneak a smooch on Mario Cristobal. But Bain knows that 'The Playmaker' is someone he will be able to count on as he begins his NFL journey.

Irvin retired from football over 25 years ago after helping the Dallas Cowboys win three Super Bowl championships. But he will forever be associated with the Miami Hurricanes of the 1980s. He played under Jimmy Johnson and it was the height of "The U". Whether it ws the fatigues before the Orange Bowl, the countless wins over Oklahoma or the comeback win over FSU in 1987, Irvin was always at the center of it all.

He took that personality with him to Dallas, where he drafted 11th overall by the Cowboys in 1988 and reunited with Jimmy Johnson in 1989. While Irvin was part of the "Triplets" that took America's team to new heights, he was not without major controversy.

But once you get past the antics, Irvin separated himself from the pack and made the Hall of Fame because he worked as hard as anyone and played every game like it was his last. As Bain gets ready for his future in the NFL, he can look to Irvin's career as an example of what to do on the field and what not to do off the field. It's almost certain that Irvin has shared that same message with Bain over the past  couple of years.
