With the addition of new Miami Hurricanes star quarterback Carson Beck, the offense is still going to be a ton of fun to watch next season even with Cam Ward on his way to the NFL. However, there's no question that Miami still needs some help at wide receiver.
There's plenty of youth being featured in the WRs room, though the addition of transfer C.J. Daniels should prove to be major for this team. With that said, Cristobal and his coaches are surely taking a look at other options that are available.
On Tuesday night, we already wrote about Miami needing to call Harrison Wallace after he announced he'll be leaving Penn State and transferring. Out of nowhere, another big-name player is looking for a new home, with Johntay Cook and Washington reportedly parting ways. Would this be a player Cristobal and his coaches would consider bringing in to help out Beck in 2025?
Former 5-star Texas WR Johntay Cook is leaving Washington after 48 hours on campus
Coming out of the 2023 class, Cook was ranked five stars and the No. 4 wide receiver in the country according to the 247Sports Composite. His potential was through the roof for the Longhorns from the moment he made his way to Austin.
However, Cook wasn't able to live up to that potential for Steve Sarkisian, as he left the program this past fall and wasn't part of the College Football Playoff run. During his freshman season, Cook posted eight receptions for 136 yards, which was a letdown.
Then in 2024, he had just eight catches for 137 yards and two touchdowns in six games before deciding to transfer. He was a touted playmaker in the portal this winter, with Washington winning the recruiting battle.
However, he moved to Seattle this week to join the rest of his teammates on campus, but he didn't even last 48 hours in town before the breaking news arrived that he wasn't going to suit up for UW in 2025? There's surely more to this story, but it's not a good look for the young wideout. Plenty of Miami fans are calling for Cristobal to make a move to land him, while others are saying it wouldn't be worth the risk. Only time will tell if Miami ends up showing interest or not.
