North Carolina wide receiver Tyran Evans has decommitted from the University of Tennessee shortly after completing an official visit to the University of Miami. Evans, a 6-foot-3, 200-pound prospect from William Amos Hough High School in Charlotte, took to X to announce his decision:

“After a lot of prayer and thought, I’ve decided to decommit from the University of Tennessee," Evans said. "Thank you to Coach Heupel, Coach Kelsey Pope, Coach Joey Halzle, and the entire Vol staff for believing in me. I appreciate everything you’ve done for me and my family.”

Evans originally pledged to the Volunteers in January. His announcement came hot on the heels of a weekend official visit to Miami, where he met with head coach Mario Cristobal and the Hurricanes coaching staff. Multiple sources reported that the visit left a strong impression on Evans.

In an interview with Sebastian Font of CanesInSight after his Miami visit, Evans spoke glowingly of Miami. “We had a lot of fun. We got to see the whole Miami … a beautiful campus. Overall, I just understand the school more," Evans said. “Miami is one of my top, top schools.”

Landing such praise isn't surprising given the Hurricanes' heavy pursuit of Evans, alongside fellow Tennessee commit Carson Sneed. As a three-star prospect ranked No. 83 at his position and No. 500 nationally by the 247Sports Composite, Evans could bring major upside to Miami’s receiving corps.

The Hurricanes recent recruiting weekend in Coral Gables included hosting Evans, Calvin Russell, Zion Robinson, Israel Briggs, and others.

With his official decommitment from Tennessee, Miami now has an opening to cement a major summer recruiting win. Flipping Evans would help them begin to build the offensive skill position department within the 2026 recruiting class. The 2026 recruiting class currently ranks No. 8 in the country according to On3.
