Texas landed one of South Florida's best young quarterbacks Thursday when four-star Neimann Lawrence committed to the Longhorns over Miami, Texas A&M, Notre Dame and Michigan.

Lawrence is a 2028 prospect from American Heritage in Plantation, Florida, who spent his sophomore season at Miami Northwestern. The 6-foot-1 quarterback gives Steve Sarkisian his first commitment in the 2028 class and gives Texas an early building block at the most important position in the sport.

The track record of Sarkisian and quarterbacks coach AJ Milwee was a major reason behind Lawrence's decision.

Lawrence is rated as the No. 53 overall prospect and No. 5 quarterback in the 2028 class by the 247Sports Composite. Rivals has him No. 62 nationally and No. 6 among quarterbacks, while its Industry Ranking places him No. 67 overall and No. 6 at the position.

Lawrence first broke out as a freshman starter at Ransom Everglades. He completed 162 of 252 passes for 2,777 yards, 31 touchdowns and eight interceptions while adding 100 rushing yards and four scores. His freshman season earned him MaxPreps Freshman All-American recognition.

He transferred to Miami Northwestern for his sophomore year and completed 131 of 185 passes for 1,971 yards, 32 touchdowns and one interception. He added 104 rushing yards and a touchdown while helping the Bulls reach the Florida Class 3A state championship game, where they lost 23-22 to Jacksonville Raines.

Lawrence is now set to play his junior season at American Heritage. The Patriots previously developed 2026 Texas quarterback signee Dia Bell.

The Hurricanes already have Jacksonville Mandarin quarterback Knox Annis committed in the class of 2028. Annis committed to Miami in April after visiting for a spring practice, and 247Sports ranks him as the No. 37 quarterback in the 2028 class.

Miami will have to move forward with Annis while continuing to build its quarterback board.
