The CFP committee has given the Miami Hurricanes the best news possible

Ohio State stayed on top. Georgia moved up. And Miami moved a little closer to where its fans want the Hurricanes to be.

The CFP picture after Week 12

The College Football Playoff selection committee unveiled its third Top 25 of the 2025 season Tuesday night, with undefeated Ohio State, Indiana and Texas A&M holding the top three spots and Georgia climbing to No. 4 after a statement win over Texas. Under the 12–team format, those four would receive first–round byes if the season ended today.

Behind them, Texas Tech (No. 5), Ole Miss (No. 6), Oregon (No. 7) and Oklahoma (No. 8) would host first–round games, with Notre Dame (No. 9) and Alabama (No. 10) just outside the home-game window. BYU (No. 11) and Utah (No. 12) round out the top dozen but are jumped by Miami (No. 13) and Tulane (No. 24) due to auto-bids.

Miami continues to rise in the CFP rankings

For Miami, they continue to get positive feedback from the committee after the initial rankings. The committee slotted Miami at No. 13 this week, up from No. 15 in the last rankings and now clearly established as the ACC's highest–ranked team. Georgia Tech dropped a spot (jumped by USC) and now sits at No. 16. Despite being on a bye in Week 12, Vanderbilt ended up getting jumped by the Hurricanes and fell to No. 14. Texas fell all the way down to No. 17.

Because the bracket guarantees spots to the five highest–ranked conference champions, the Hurricanes currently project as the No. 11 seed. Although, that's not why these rankings are promising. Miami doesn't have a good chance to make the ACC title game, but they do have a better chance to make the CFP as an at-large bid.

The CFP committee may not be honoring the head-to-head result Miami has over Notre Dame, but they are buying stock in the Canes as they moved them up by at least two spots in the second straight week. It now looks like if the Hurricanes end the year 10-2, then the committee will slot them into the at-large bid they so badly want.

At a certain point the outcome of Week 1 will matter and CFP committee will have to address that. For now, Miami moves up once more, and are now in great position for the playoffs. It appears as though Miami controls its own destiny.
