Carson Beck's first CFP game was not anything to write home about statistically, but he did what he needed to do when he needed to do it and Miami has advanced to the quarterfinals against Ohio State.
The Buckeyes are going to be as tough of a test for Beck and the Hurricanes' offense as Texas A&M was, and, if we're being honest, they will probably be tougher. But this is what Beck was brought in for and prior to the Aggies game, former Gators quarterback Tim Tebow thought Beck would get the job done when his name was called.
“When he plays his best, he can torch defenses.”

Even though the comments were prior to Saturday's game, what Tebow said still stands up for next week's Cotton Bowl.
"I've seen him play as a top-10 pick," Tebow said. "When he plays his best he can torch defenses."
Beck should be better against the Buckeyes
This isn't necessarily an indictment on Ohio State's defense. I believe the Buckeyes defense is very good, and defensive coordinator Matt Patricia has been in his bag all season. But Beck's numbers last week in College Station were greatly affected by some tough wind conditions that made downfield passing next to impossible.

But the Cotton Bowl is in AT&T Stadium, a weather-controlled environment with a nice retractable roof that will leave all the bad weather out. Just the lack of fighting conditions and compensating for wind gusts, should help Beck throw with more confidence and allow Shannon Dawson to open up the playbook a little bit.
Ohio State has a lot of dudes on defense. Caleb Downs and Arvell Reese are both likely top-10 picks, so this is going to be a grind. But last week, Beck had to fight off the Aggies defense and the elements. This week it's just the players he needs to worry about.
Beck must continue to play to his strengths. He doesn't have to be flashy and sometimes his ability to recognize what's working makes up for any statistical shortcomings. This is no time to worry about draft position or passing for 300 yards. It's about leadership and winning football games — the reason Beck was brought to Miami.
