Miami's 2027 class is still in its early stages, but it is already saying something about how Mario Cristobal wants to build. The Hurricanes have seven commitments, all from South Florida, and that group is good enough to have Miami ranked No. 8 nationally and No. 1 in the ACC in the Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.

Over at 247Sports, Miami sits No. 10 nationally with the No. 8 average recruit ranking.

Miami's 2027 recruiting class

  • Nick Lennear, WR, Miami Carol City: On3 ranks him No. 26 nationally, while 247Sports has him even higher at No. 12 overall, No. 3 at receiver and No. 2 in Florida.
  • Jaylyn Jones, S, McArthur: a top-250 player on On3 and the highest-rated defensive commitment in the class right now.
  • Demarcus DeRoche, Cardinal Gibbons: superior athlete who plays both sides of the ball in high school (TE/EDGE).
  • Ah'Mari Stevens, WR, Chaminade-Madonna: another top-250 player on On3 and Miami's second early receiver commit.
  • Sherrod Gourdine, CB, McArthur: the newest defensive back in the class and Miami's seventh commit.
  • Josh Johnson, DL, Key West: a new addition who gave Miami a win over Florida.
  • Zaquan Linton, OT, Palm Beach Central: the lone offensive line commit for now.

What Miami has achieved so far with the 2027 class

Miami has gone skill-first (and backyard-first) as two of the biggest names in the class are receivers. Lennear is the best in the class, but Stevens is also very good in his own right.

There is also a notable development in the secondary. Jones and Gourdine are both from McArthur. The staff is clearly doing the kind of local relationship work that is paying off.

The class is off to a nice start, but we still have a long time to go before it is complete. Miami still needs to add commitments from important positions like quarterback, running back and linebacker. And the Canes will definitely go get some recruits in the trenches. But so far it has been smooth sailing for Cristobal and company.
