The Miami Hurricanes are finally back in the National Championship, after a hiatus of more than two decades.
Now, as the Canes look to topple the No. 1 Indiana Hoosiers, quite literally proving every single doubter wrong, a few Miami legends have shared their own title-winning experiences and advice.
Most recently, Lamar Thomas, who played wide receiver for the Hurricanes from 1989 through 1992 and won two National Championships with Miami (1989, 1991), shared his thoughts on the current Canes team.
"If you can pull it off, you can walk around here with people praising you," Thomas said. "This could be the greatest [Miami] National Championship because of the gauntlet they had to run."
Lamar Thomas is going all in on Miami
Of course, when Thomas won his national titles with the Hurricanes, the College Football Playoff was still decades from becoming a reality. So, when he refers to the gauntlet, he's not just referring to the quality of other teams; he's also referring to the fact that there are more games.
"You feel like a father, an OG."

In 1991, when Miami won its fourth National Championship, the Canes finished 12-0 overall and defeated the Nebraska Cornhuskers 22-0 in the title game (nothing to scoff at). In 2001, when the Hurricanes secured their most recent Natty, they also finished with a 12-0 record.
This time around, Miami has already secured 13 wins (along with two losses), and the Canes still have one game to go.
The world of college football is drastically different from what it was in the late 80s and early 90s. Heck, it's drastically different from what it was in 2001.
If Miami can make its way into the College Football Playoff, upset team after team on its way to the National Championship, and then dethrone the No. 1 Indiana Hoosiers in the biggest game of the year, then it would be hard to argue that this isn't the best title-winning Hurricanes team of all time.
