There's a lot of early movement happening with the 2028 recruiting class and Mario Cristobal is going to make sure that the Miami Hurricanes continue to be in the mix for the top prospects in the country.
Many of those prospects were on campus last month for Miami's elite camp and blue-chip edge rusher Asher Ghioto was one of those that worked out for defensive ends coach Jason Taylor. That was the first step in a recruitment that looks very promising for the Hurricanes. So promising that 247Sports regional writer Zach Blostein put in a crystal ball for Miami to land the 6-foot-4, 240-pounder from Jacksonville.

Early projections have Miami in a great spot for in-state EDGE Asher Ghioto
Ghioto has a five-star ranking in the Composite. He is rated as the third-best prospect in the country regardless of position and the top edge rusher in the nation. Rivals/On3 ranks him as the No. 8 prospect nationally and the second-best prospect at his position. Ghioto is coming off of a monster season with Bolles High School where he posted 84 tackles, 35 tackles for loss and 23 sacks in 15 games.
The offers have come from coast-to-coast, but his early top three were Miami, Clemson and Texas A&M, with Florida also in the picture. Other offers include Alabama, Oregon, Penn State, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Michigan, Indiana, LSU and nearly every other major P4 program in the country. Ghioto has been consistently one of the top underclassmen mentioned during the spring and summer camp showcase curcuit.
Miami has traditionally been the home of elite defensive linemen and after Rueben Bain Jr. and Akheem Mesidor were both selected in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft, it's no surprise that the best pass rushers in the country are ready to learn from Taylor, a Pro Football Hall of Fame pass rusher himself.

Cristobal and Taylor put a high premium on pass rushers because there are few skills more important in football than the ability to get to the quarterback. Miami landed a commitment from five-star edge rusherJaiden Bryant in June when he flipped from LSU and the staff continues to be in hot pursuit of the top-rated edge rusher in the 2027 class. But Cristobal would love to lock down Ghioto early and avoid being a position where he has to go through another recruiting cycle where most of the top targets were still on the board as the official visit season approached.
This is also a nice chance for Cristobal to get an early big recruiting win on Texas A&M, a school that became an unexpected thorn in his side during this recruiting cycle. With the 2027 class close to being locked up, it's full speed ahead for 2028.
