Always be 'crootin'. It is one of the things that Mario Cristobal does best as a head coach. The face of his alma mater Miami Hurricanes' football program knows that the best way to sustain excellence on the gridiron from Coral Gables is to land guys from inside their fertile recruiting territory. With 305 Day having taken place Thursday, it resulted in blue-chipper Nick Lennear staying home to play for Miami.
Lennear is every bit the five-star prospect out of Carol City. The 247Sports Composite has him as the No. 2 player from Florida, the No. 3 wide receiver in the country, and the No. 12 overall player nationally in the 2027 recruiting cycle. Lennear was in attendance for 305 Day. By committing to Miami, this could help elevate the Hurricanes' recruiting class even more so. It is a total tone-setter.
So in the extended wake of Lennear committing to Miami, who else could echo his sentiment with a firm commitment to Miami soon? It should be noted that Miami will also have a slew of spring practice visitors coming up later in the month from March 26 through March 30. With all that in mind, it serves us to take a good, hard look at who was at 305 Day, and who from the group may be committing soon.
Let's start with a highly-coveted linebacker from another major metropolis inside the state of Florida.
3. Linebacker Kaden Henderson (Jesuit, Tampa, FL)
Jesuit linebacker Kaden Henderson was one of a handful of front-seven players in attendance for 305 Day. According to the 247Sports Composite, he is the No. 3 player from Florida, the No. 1 linebacker in the country, and the No. 24 overall player nationally for 2027. He has 41 official offers, including ones from Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, and Florida State, in addition to from Miami.
While it still may be too early to tell where Henderson is leaning, him coming to Miami for 305 Day from Tampa is a big deal. With Florida and Florida State posing as real threats to land him in-state, Miami needs to act fast to prevent him from going to either rival. If there is one other team to keep an eye on out-of-state, it might be Clemson. The Tigers have a knack for developing great linebackers.
If Miami left a strong impression on him, there is a chance Henderson could view Miami as a leader.
2. Quarterback Davin Davidson (Cardinal Mooney, Sarasota, FL)
It would be huge if another in-state product committed to Miami not long after 305 Day festivities. Four-star quarterback Davin Davidson joining the Hurricanes' cause could be huge for rallying the troops in-state, so to speak... According to the 247Sports Composite, Davidson is the No. 15 player from Florida, the No. 13 quarterback nationally, and the No. 155 overall recruit from the 2027 class.
While he has 32 officials offers, having Davidson commit in-state would help the Hurricanes get out of the transfer portal quarterback market for good. Although the Canes have hit on their last two quarterbacks out of the portal in Carson Beck and Cam Ward before that, all the pressure is on Darian Mensah this year to make it three great ones in a row. Homegrown players are what Miami is built on.
For now, it remains to be seen what direction Davidson will want to go in after visiting with Miami.
1. Running back Elijah Kimble (Canisius, Buffalo, NY)
This feels significant. Getting four-star running back Elijah Kimble to come down all the way from Buffalo to be a part of 305 Day is huge! He was one of a handful of players on the offensive side of the ball in attendance for this recruiting event. While Miami is facing a ton of pressure to land the best player out of New York on the recruiting trail, Miami in early March is much better than up in Buffalo...
According to the 247Sports Composite, Kimble is the No. 1 player from New York, the No. 21 running back in the country, and the No. 311 prospect in the 2027 recruiting class. He has 38 official offers thus far. Outside of Miami, Kimble is looking very hard at playing for either Indiana or Washington in the Big Ten, or for North Carolina in the ACC. Again, the Hurricanes will have stiff competition for him.
Landing Kimble would make Miami powerful and his three other potential suitors that much weaker.
