5-star EDGE target DJ Jacobs continues to feed into the Miami flip rumors

The Miami Hurricanes are still interested in flipping DJ Jacobs from the Ohio State Buckeyes and the five-star edge rusher is clearly feeding into the rumors a little.

Jacobs made some noise over the weekend when he reportedly reposted A'mir Sears' post on X after the latter committed to the Hurricanes.

Miami's recruiting class would blow the field away with DJ Jacobs flip

The Hurricanes already have the best recruiting class in 2027, regardless of what 247Sports or Rivals/On3 says. But Mario Cristobal and staff aren't going to quit and a move to get 5-star edge rusher DJ Jacobs would be the signature to a legendary class.

Jacobs is currently committed to Ohio State, but that commitment is super shaky because there are still programs that believe he will flip on the Buckeyes. The Hurricanes have been mentioned as the program that has the greatest possibility to flip Jacobs because he was thought to be leaning to Miami in the hours before he committed last December.

Miami is no longer the only school that's a threat to flip Jacobs (more on that later), but given where Cristobal is with this class and the likelihood that it's a full group until a player like the blue-chip recruit from Roswell, Georgia. That gives the coach a little more freedom to focus all his recruiting energy on Jacobs.

Part of that energy will likely go into recruiting his younger brother, Dawson Jacobs, a top-200 national prospect in the 2028 class on both 247Sports and Rivals/On3. The 6-foot-2, 250-pound rising junior has the body frame to be a defensive tackle in the future, which would give the brothers an opportunity to play together.

Miami is already on Dawson Jacobs' radar. He took a visit to Coral Gables during the spring and all eyes will be on a potential return to campus for a game this fall, with his older brother likely along for the trip. 

Is Tennessee a true threat to Miami to flip 5-star DJ Jacobs?

It would be hard to discount the Volunteers as a potential new and very live threat in the race to flip Jacobs. Tennessee has been on a bit of a recruiting heater since landing the commitment of 5-star running back David Gabriel Georges and that pledge has raised the profile of a program that is just one year removed from making the playoffs. 

The only thing that would be tougher than losing Jacobs once, would be losing Jacobs a second time, but that's a risk that Cristobal, Jason Taylor and the rest of the staff are more than willing to take. And given the success of this class so far, there's no reason they shouldn't be confident in landing one more big-time recruit.
