Israel Abrams wants to be a great Miami Hurricane, so it makes sense that he's trying to learn from one of the best.

Abrams was front and center at Cam Ward's C1 QB Academy, getting some words of instruction from the top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. In his one season with Miami, Ward had one of the best seasons for a quarterback in school history, throwing for 4,313 yards and 39 touchdowns to win the Davey O'Brien Award and finish second in the Heisman Trophy voting behind Travis Hunter.

Abrams has been tabbed as the Hurricanes QB of the future. The five-star prospect out of the Chicagoland area committed to Miami in April and recently said that he chose the Hurricanes over Auburn and Purdue.

Israel Abrams gets in some throwing time with Cam Ward

Abrams has been busy this offseason. He was one of the top quarterbacks at the Elite 11 showcase and that played a big role in his getting awarded a fifth star by 247Sports and moving into the site's top-10 national rankings. He was in Oregon last weekend for The Opening, where he continued to excite onlookers with his talent and ability to create. Before heading to the Pacific Northwest, Abrams was a participant in Miami's Elite Camp, where he got to work with offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson and connect with future teammates.

When Abrams isn't doing any of that, he's trying to help the Hurricanes staff with their recruiting efforts, most notably giving four-star wide receiver Eli Woodard a push that he hopes will lead to another blue-chip player choosing Miami.

This isn't the first time that Ward has worked with a future Miami quarterback. Last year it was Darian Mensah that went to Nashville to get in some practice time while he was at Duke.

"He invited me to come to Nashville and learn from him, which was an awesome experience," Mensah said to the ACC Network last year. "I think he's one of the best young quarterbacks out right now, so that was just an awesome experience for sure."

Miami has built a formidable QB room for the future

Abrams is a crucial piece to the puzzle and a player that Mario Cristobal and Dawson expect to come into the program next December and be ready to compete. He is a big part of the Hurricanes' plan to restock the quarterback room with in-house talent. With last week's commitment of 2029 QB CJ Cypher and Class of 2028 QB commit Knox Annis, it's going to be a fun time for the next 6–8 years of play from the most important position on the field.

By the looks of things, Ward is going to be involved in that future and the work he's done with Mensah and Abrams should show up on the field for the Hurricanes.
