Rumors and reports continue to fly on what teams might be thinking ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft. For the New York Giants, this team needs quarterback help and they need it fast. Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen are on the hot seat, with John Mara losing patience.
Because of that, there's been plenty of speculation that the Giants could get desperate enough to trade up for the No. 1 overall pick to grab a franchise signal-caller. On top of that, the belief has been that Schoen could move up to take Miami Hurricanes QB Cam Ward over Shedeur Sanders.
Hold the phone on that. This week, Colin Cowherd revealed that his sources are telling him that the Giants aren't super high on QBs for the '25 draft class. Because of this, the door is open for the Giants to make a move for a veteran quarterback, with Matthew Stafford being an option. Whoa:
“The Giants do not like the QB class. I believe they are going to make a move for Matthew Stafford.”

Matthew Stafford to the Giants continues to be a thing all over.
Although, the Rams wanting the No. 3 pick for Stafford? Ehhh…. I dunno.pic.twitter.com/DgNRUOx453
Where will Miami QB Cam Ward land in the 2025 NFL Draft?
This really comes off as a bit of a surprise. On one side, it makes sense. The Giants have to showcase major improvements in 2025 if Schoen and Daboll want to keep their jobs. Bringing in a veteran QB like Stafford sure could help in that department, but at the right price.
However, is Stafford really the answer for the long haul? Not a chance. Someone like Ward is, which is why countless people in New York and New Jersey want to see Big Blue aggressively try to draft him. There's a chance Ward could fall to No. 3 if the G-Men stay put, but there's a risk in waiting.
Ward put up historic numbers for the Canes this past season, skyrocketing his draft stock after making the move to Coral Gables from Washington State. He'll surely have some ups and downs if he starts for a team next year, but let Jayden Daniels be an example of what a young QB can do in the right system.
We think Ward has an unreal future in the league whether it be with the Giants or someone else. Schoen and Co. need to get things right during the draft. Passing up on a chance to bring in Ward could prove to be a (no pun intended) giant mistake if New York goes that route.
