Former Miami tight end Elijah Arroyo spoke to New Era about playing against his college roommate, Andres Borregales, in Super Bowl LIX on Sunday. Borreagales plays for the New England Patriots and Arroyo is on the Seattle Seahawks. Arroyo and Borregales are rookies.

Arroyo mentioned that Borregales reached out to him. The conversation was a little trash talk and a little love, with both being competitors per Arroyo to New Era. As rookies in the NFL, Arroyo and Borregales missed out on the Miami run to the national championship game, but they get to play in the biggest game in football.

Continuing in the interview, Arroyo said that the only thing different in his preparation for Super Bowl LIX is the media distractions. The rest of the preparation for Super LIX per Arroyo is the same process and some routine as it has been throughout the season. Arroyo closed the interview by saying Go Canes.

Arroyo had 15 receptions on 26 targets for 179 yards, with seven going for first downs and one touchdown in 2025. After suffering an injury in week 15, Arroyo was placed on injured reserve. Seattle activated Arroyo for the NFC Championship Game, but he did not play.

Andres Borregales rookie season

Borregales finished the regular season with 134 points on 27 out of 32 made field goals and 53 out of 55 extra points. In three New England Playoff games, Borregales has 18 points, making four out of his six field goal attempts and all six of his extra points.

New England defensive tackle Leonard Taylor III was also a teammate of Arroyo and Borregales with Miami. Taylor III was signed to the New England practice squad two days after he was released by the New York Jets in October. Taylor played a season and a half with the Jets.
