The University of Miami has officially announced the hiring of Charlton "C.Y." Young as an associate head coach for the Hurricanes men's basketball program. Young joins head coach Jai Lucas's inaugural staff, bringing over two decades of coaching experience and a reputation for player development and recruiting prowess. During his time as a collegiate coach, Young has nine NCAA Tournament appearances, two regular-season conference titles and has coached 15 NBA Draft picks.

Young arrives in Coral Gables after serving as the associate head coach at the University of Missouri under Dennis Gates. During his tenure he played a pivotal role in the Tigers achieving two 20-win seasons, making the NCAA Tournament two times in three seasons, and setting their highest win mark (25) in the past 11 years.

Prior to his stint at Missouri, Young spent nine seasons as an assistant coach at Florida State University under Leonard Hamilton. His time with the Seminoles was marked by significant success, including an ACC regular-season championship in 2020, three Sweet Sixteen appearances and the program’s first Elite Eight appearance in 25 years.

Young's coaching journey also includes a head coaching role at his alma mater, Georgia Southern University, from 2009 to 2013. Under his leadership, the Eagles finished as high as second-place finish in the Southern Conference standings. Young has also been an assistant coach at Jacksonville, Northeastern, Auburn, Chattanooga and Georgia Tech.

A native of Miami, Florida, Young returns to his hometown to help local recruiting efforts and strengthen community ties. His deep roots in the area and extensive coaching network are expected to help the Hurricanes rebuild and elevate their basketball program under Lucas.

In the past week Lucas also hired high school coach Andrew Moran to join his staff as an assistant coach. Moran has ties to South Florida basketball that could be useful on the recruitng trail as well. It was also recently reported that Jeff Dyer will continue his role as Director of Basketball Operations.
