Who knew the Lane Kiffin move from Ole Miss to LSU was going to be such a nightmare for Mario Cristobal and Miami. This transfer portal alone, Kiffin has been on fire landing big-name recruits, which has been a pain in the rear for the Canes.
Miami missed out on 5-star Jordan Seaton and we all know why
Two of the top transfer playmakers Cristobal had high on his board this cycle were no question quarterback Sam Leavitt and offensive tackle Jordan Seaton. Both players were the highest-rated guys at their respective positions in the '26 rankings.
Miami had both come in for official visits. With Leavitt in particular, it felt like Miami had a great shot of signing him, selling the stud QB on being the perfect Carson Beck replacement. He inked with LSU and in another setback for Miami, Seaton decided to do the same:

Miami losing out on Sam Leavitt and Jordan Seaton is all on Lane Kiffin
In terms of losing Seaton, it really felt like this just came down to a bidding war that Cristobal and Miami weren't going to get involved in. Yes, they wanted the stud tackle to make plays in the trenches next fall for the program, but not for an insane amount of money.
The Leavitt loss definitely was one that hurt the most. It has opened the door for the Canes to make a move for Duke transfer Darian Mensah, but some legal hoops are getting in the way of Miami making things official with him.
Had Leavitt signed with the Canes, though, then Miami fans wouldn't be worrying about whether or not Mensah will be able to get out of his deal with the Blue Devils. Things are a bit of a mess there, but there's optimism Miami will get some good news in the near future.
With all of that said, Kiffin is on top of the world thanks to his solid recruiting wins and he's not celebrating in a humble style on social media. He's landed two jabs on Miami with the Leavitt and Seaton news, which is a bummer for several different reasons.
