Mario Cristobal and Miami make the right impression on major 5-star target

The Miami Hurricanes gave Jaiden Bryant plenty to think about this weekend.

Mario Cristobal and staff made up a lot of ground with the five-star edge rusher during his official visit to Coral Gables. Bryant remains committed to LSU, but the Hurricanes staff has been aggressively trying to get him to flip, and they may have helped their cause this weekend.

“[The commitment to LSU is] still strong, but I haven’t signed any papers, so anything can happen. It’s really just Miami and LSU in this race," Bryant said to Sebastian Font of CanesInsight after his visit.

Previously, Bryant had said that he was "90-percent" committed to the Tigers, but his visit to Miami saw a significant shift in those odds.

“I’d give Miami like 30 percent now," Bryant added.

Mario Cristobal is looking for one more big recruiting flip

Top recruits like to check out the national scene. Some even commit to other schools. But the blue chippers, like five-star cornerback Donte Wright, end up in Miami where they belong.

Rivals/On3 national recruiting director Steve Wiltfong says that Miami is definitely a flip possibility for Bryant and the Hurricanes will be the school to watch as he goes through the rest of his official visits.

"When he gave a commitment to LSU earlier this calendar year, I think Miami has only increased their communication and showing the love that they have for Jaiden Bryant," Wiltfong said. "[The Hurricanes] are coming off an awesome NFL Draft with a couple of d-linemen hearing their names called in the first round.  This is a program that continues to have the keen interest of Bryant as they battle LSU, Texas A&M and others moving forward."

Upcoming visits for Bryant will be to Texas A&M next weekend, followed by South Carolina on June 12 before closing out the schedule with a trip to LSU.

Where does Miami stand with 5-star EDGE Jaiden Bryant after his official visit?

I think the Hurricanes are in the position they want to be in after the official visit. It would've been nice to get the flip, but it was just as important to get Bryant on campus during the first week of official visits and set the standard for what he wants to see over the next few weeks. Miami is the place that pass rushers should want to be at right now after Rueben Bain Jr. and Akheem Mesidor were drafted in the first round last month. The unit is coached by Jason Taylor, a first-ballot Hall of Famer and one of the greatest to ever play the position.

Bryant is one of three major players that Cristobal wants to be in the hunt for a flip as the season approaches, along with five-star offensive tackle Mark Matthews (Texas A&M) and five-star edge rusher DJ Jacobs (Ohio State). Bryant is the only one that committed to an official visit, but don't be surprised if we see Matthews and Jacobs around campus at some point in June.
