There will be a lot of recruits taking official visits to Miami in the upcoming weekend. Mario Cristobal and the Hurricanes staff have 16 players on the visit list according to the most recent update and that doesn't include players that will be taking unofficial visits and Class of 2028 and 2029 prospects that may also be on campus.

One of the official visitors that's flown under the radar a bit is four-star defensive lineman DeMarco Jenkins, and he's going to be in Coral Gables to give the Hurricanes staff a chance to win his recruitment on the verge of a June 1 announcement date.

4-star DL DeMarco Jenkins will take a look at Miami

Jenkins was offered by the Hurricanes last August and the offer has shaken up a recruitment that was expected to be between in-state schools TCU and SMU. The Horned Frogs and the Mustangs are still in it, but Miami gets the visit before the announcement, so Jenkins can see what happens.

It's going to be an uphill battle for Cristobal and the staff. The Rivals/On3 predictor has SMU has a massive favorite to land Jenkins, but Miami is looking to bolster its recruiting class at defensive tackle and the Houston-area prospect is one that the staff remains optimistic about.

Miami has two defensive tackle prospects committed — four-star recruit Ezekiel Ayangbile and in-state prospect John Johnson. In a perfect world, I think the Hurricanes staff would like to get four defensive tackles/big bodies in this class. They have lost out on a couple of blue-chip players like Xavier Muhammad, who pledged to Michigan and five-star prospect David Folorunsho, who committed to Notre Dame a couple of weeks ago.

Those moves have elevated Jenkins as a target and someone that I believe Cristobal is going to bring out all the bells and whistles for this weekend. Don't be surprised if Jenkins leaves Coral Gables with a much tougher decision to make next Monday.

What to look for with Miami's first big official visit weekend

There are a lot of commits coming into town and there could be a few others that are committed that will take unofficial visits. Don't be surprised if there are some pretty notable 2028 local recruits on campus as well. Official visits can be quite a celebration and there's always a list of additional invitees that the Hurricanes staff would love to see if they can make it there.

Obviously, the staff will be trying to make up some ground with Jenkins, but they will also be trying to do the same with five-star linebacker Kaden Henderson, an in-state recruit that Miami has always been in the picture for, but now they might be trying to catch up with some other schools that have emerged in his group of favorites, like Texas A&M and Ohio State. This is going to be a big visit for Henderson and Hurricane fans will be very interested to see where Miami stands when this one is done.
