There aren't many days that go by where we aren't thinking about what Mario Cristobal's next move in recruiting is going to be. The Miami Hurricanes are starting to gear up for the 2028 class and the staff is making moves to ensure that the next recruiting cycle is as fruitful as the current one.
Most fans believe that Cristobal isn't done with the 2027 class yet, even after last week's commitment of 4-star wide receiver Eli Woodard. There are a still a few major flip targets on the board and one that both fans and recruiting insiders are keeping an eye on is five-star edge rusher DJ Jacobs.

Miami has produced some massive flips this cycle. The Hurricanes may not be done as the door remains slightly open for five-star Ohio State EDGE commit DJ Jacobs #GoCanes. https://t.co/YOI0pqAHkT pic.twitter.com/vBqITNrklD

Jacobs has been committed to Ohio State since late December and in recent weeks it has appeared as if he solidified that pledge to the Buckeyes. But that hasn't stopped the speculation about Jacobs eventually ending up in Miami's class and if Cristobal's pursuit of him will continue into the season. Rivals' Steve Wiltfong all but confirms that will be the case and the covert way that the Hurricanes staff will continue to work this recruitment.Â
"Under the pretense of, 'Hey, we're recruiting Dawson Jacobs', they're still on the gas for DJ Jacobs, who is committed to Ohio State. And [Miami] led for more time than Ohio State did," Wiltfong said.Â

Miami's gateway to 5-star DJ Jacobs could be through familyÂ
Dawson Jacobs has not been a stranger around Coral Gables. He's been on campus during the spring and worked out in front of the staff. He's no slouch either. He's listed at 6-foot-3, 240 pounds, and he's rated as a top-200 prospect within the composite rankings. The younger Jacobs has a strong list of offers as well, with Notre Dame, Ohio State, Texas A&M, Tennessee and Oregon among the schools that are mentioned with Miami as potential suitors.

Because Dawson Jacobs still has a year left in his recruitment, his in-season visits are going to take on a lot of attention because of the likelihood of his older brother being on the trips. So how many times will they be at Ohio State? Will they take the trip from Roswell, Georgia down to Coral Gables? What about going to South Bend on November 7 for the Notre Dame-Miami showdown? There are many possibilities that could link the Jacobs brothers to the Hurricanes.Â
What would adding DJ Jacobs do for Miami's 2027 recruiting class?
Adding another five-star recruit to this class would almost guarantee Miami as the top-rated class in the nation, if on quality alone. A fifth five-star player would put this Hurricanes class among the best we've seen in the 21st century. It's the type of high school recruiting haul we've heard not to expect anymore in the NIL era, but Cristobal is ready to challenge that theory.Â
We should expect the recruitment for DJ Jacobs to go down to the wire and, while the coaching staff is getting a well-deserved rest before the start of training camp, you can believe that Cristobal is thinking of a plan to get another blue-chip talent on his roster.Â
