We're around the six-week mark before the Early Signing Period and the Miami Hurricanes are already experiencing some movement in their 2027 recruiting class.
Miami flipped four-star linebacker Aston Whiteside from his Texas A&M pledge on Wednesday. Last week, the Hurricanes lost a commitment from four-star offensive guard Jatori Williams. These recent developments could be the start of a wide ride in the next few weeks as Mario Cristobal tries to put the finishing touches on one of the top recruiting classes in the country.

Whiteside's flip comes on the heels of the announcement that 5-star EDGE DJ Jacobs and his younger brother Dawson Jacobs, a four-star defensive lineman in the 2028 class, will be among the recruits in attendance for Saturday's game against Pitt.
Mario Cristobal is ready to making move in Miami's recruiting class
Miami recruits all made a declaration to shut their recruitment down near the end of the summer. That sounded nice in theory, but even the most optimistic Hurricanes fan would've been shocked if the 21 original commits had all stayed in place.
And nearly the same time that Whiteside announced his move to Miami, the Hurricanes lost defensive tackle DeMarco Jenkins, who flipped to conference rival SMU.

It's highly unlikely Miami is not going to look for another defensive lineman to flip that slot. Cristobal has made it a priority to stockpile talent in the trenches since he returned to Coral Gables.
The good news is that the majority of the class is very solid. I would guess that 90% of the pledges will be signing their letters of intent with the Hurricanes when the Early Signing Period begins. But there will be some movement and potentially some major events to happen with this class that could change everything.
Cristobal is aggressively after a few major targets. Jacobs is arguably the top recruit in the 2027 class. He was a lean to Miami before some late communication from Ryan Day swayed him to commit to Ohio State last December. Cristobal has exercised a lot of patience in recruiting Jacobs, and he's been waiting for the opening to turn up the heat. That's going to happen Saturday and from this point forward, you have to believe that the Hurricanes are going to be seriously in the mix for Jacobs as we approach the stretch run.
As it stands, Miami's class is top-five in the country and the blue-chip ratio is the best in the country. But that doesn't mean Cristobal is content. Not when five-star offensive tackle Mark Matthews is in Miami's backyard and is currently committed to Texas A&M. There's also the likelihood that Cristobal will take a shot at a top-flight running back like five-star Georgia commit Kemon Spell or four-star prospect Myson Johnson-Cook, who committed to Auburn over Miami in the spring.
There's so much going on with Miami football right now that it's hard to keep track of things. The Hurricanes are the No. 1 team in the country and Cristobal is trying to balance his in-season responsibilities on the field with the need to have a strong close in the 2027 recruiting cycle and add some commits to the 2028 class.
This time of year in recruiting is not for the weak at heart. There will be some highs and lows over the next few weeks, but when the smoke clears, expect Miami to add a ton of exciting young players to the roster.
