Miami Hurricanes defensive lineman Joshua Horton has entered the NCAA transfer portal and is scheduled to visit the University of Georgia on Friday. The 6-foot-5, 295-pound redshirt sophomore appeared in eight games over two seasons with Miami and recorded only four tackles.

Horton, a native of Fairburn, Georgia, was a four-star recruit in the 2023 class from Langston Hughes High School. He was ranked as the No. 421 overall prospect and the No. 47 defensive lineman nationally. He was high school teammates with current Georgia offensive lineman Bo Hughley, with whom he won a state championship.

Injuries and depth chart competition limited Horton's playing time at Miami. Following spring practices, he found himself behind players like David Blay, Ahmad Moten, and freshman Donta Simpson on the depth chart. With three years of eligibility remaining, Horton is exploring opportunities to contribute more significantly at another program.

Horton is not the only player from Miami that has been linked to Georgia during the current transfer portal window. Fellow Georgia native, Ny Carr, is also in the transfer portal and has a history with the Bulldogs. Carr committed to Georgia in high school but decided to flip to Miami. Todd Hartley was the TE coach for Miami from 2016-18 and is still on the UGA staff. If both players end up at Georgia this could be something to keep an eye on for the future.

Horton's visit to Georgia could be a pivotal step in his transfer portal process for Miami. Horton is now the third defensive linemen who signed with Miami in 2023 to enter the transfer portal. Collins Acheampong and Jayden Wayne left Miami top hop in the transfer portal in 2024 and have each transferred again. The Hurricanes also recently lost redshirt freshman edge rusher Elias Rudolph to the portal.
