Miami hosts Connecticut after mid week run rule win over Villanova

Miami will take a three-game winning streak into its weekend series versus Connecticut after run ruling Villanova on Wednesday.

After taking the final game of the series on Sunday at Florida and wins on Tuesday versus Florida International at Loan Depot Park and versus Villanova at home on Wednesday, Miami takes a three-game winning streak into its weekend series versus Connecticut beginning on Friday night.

Connecticut enters the series with Miami after upsetting number 14 Vanderbilt 4-2 in Los Angeles on Sunday. The Huskies began the season with five straight losses, but have won two of their last four games. Connecticut won one out of three at Florida Atlantic during the second weekend of the season.

Miami enters the series versus Connecticut with four hitters batting over .300. Designated hitter Bobby Marsh has been Miami's best hitter, batting .327 with a team tying three home runs and leading 24 runs batted in in 14 games. Miami's five starting pitchers have a cumulative earned run average of 2.43.

Connecticut enters the weekend with a .295 team batting average but a 7.83 ERA. Miami is hitting .286 with a .300 team batting average. Among its regulars, Grant MacArthur leads Connecticut batting .424 with one HR and five RBIs. Tyler Minick is hitting .333 and has a team-high four HRs and 13 RBIs.

Connecticut will start Oliver Pudvar, Ian Cooke and Tommy Ellisen versus Nick Robert, Griffin Hugus and Brian Walters for Miami. Ellisen has a 1.50 ERA in three starts but has only pitched 12 innings. All three Miami starting pitchers this weekend have an ERA that is 2.40 or lower.

Miami beat Villanova 12-2 in eight innings on Wednesday. The Hurricanes hit four HRs in the win. Dorian Gonzales had two hits in five at-bats with two runs scored, one HR and five RBIs. Marsh and Derrick Williams each had three hits and two runs scored. Reese Lumpkin pitched five innings to get the win versus Villanova.

Miami is at Central Florida on Tuesday and plays a three-game series at Wake Forest next weekend to begin ACC play. Central Florida is 9-3 and hosts Monmouth in a three-game series this weekend after beating Florida 13-3 on Tuesday. Wake Forest is 11-3 and begins ACC play by hosting Notre Dame in a three-game series this weekend.
